It’s a huge, scary,
unstable world we’re living in. But in the eyes of Los Angeles emcee
Omni, it’s as beautiful as it is brutal, bursting at the seams
with amazing cultures, unforgettable characters and infinite potential.
So the self-proclaimed “California Kid” continues his mission to
unite the people of the globe through the universal culture of hip-hop
music via Batterie, a heaping helping of musical adrenalin
that finally brings Omni’s myriad talents to full fruition.
Conceived and recorded
in Australia in collaboration with the producers and emcees of Oz’s
mighty Obese Records crew, Batterie carries the soul and vibrations
of the many countries Omni has passed through in his accomplished career.
Chest-caving drums and twinkling cowbells drive “We Are All We Have”
as Omni shouts out Brazil, Dublin and Lebanon with help from Australian
rap giants the Hilltop Hoods. Flamenco guitars and gypsy violins
weave through handclaps and chants on “Bang The Drum”. Dancehall
kicks and blips meet jungle bass as Omni cajoles a female on “Crazy
In Love”. And last but never least, West Coast vet Aceyalone
drops in to rep Cali righteously on the drowsy jazz creep of “Golden”.
Omni epitomizes his
namesake throughout Batterie, switching speeds, moods and approaches
with every song, and maintaining his focus on what’s universal: emotions,
relationships, love, and spirit. Batterie is a musical bridge
between urban and tribal, a unifying statement for the young generations
of our world, and a jolt of crystallized hip-hop in its purest form.
